How to Slow Down Brain Aging Without Really Trying

Presented by:  Robert Halliwell, MD

Humans are now living longer than ever before but that also means we are facing the challenge of living a longer phase of life in "older" age -- a period when time and tide begin to take their toll on our bodies and our brains.  This lecture will consider some of the normal changes that occur in the brain as we age, and the impact that Alzheimer's disease and stroke can have on our memory and intellectual abilities.  We will also review some of the medicines, supplements and lifestyles that might slow down brain aging.

Dr. Robert Halliwell teaches neuroscience and clinical pharmacology in the School of Pharmacy, University of the Pacific; he previously held a lectureship in neuroscience at the University of Durham, England and a Research Fellowship at the University of California, Irvine.  Dr. Halliwell undertook graduate training in neurological science at University of London and in pharmacology at Ninewells Hospital & Medical School, University of Dundee (Scotland).  His lab is investigating the use of human stem cells for drug discovery; he has also published work in the history of medicine.
